To become an effective surgical tech, you must be knowledgeable in surgical terminology, patient care and sterilization techniques. Several boards and centers are responsible for administering surgical technologist certification. These include the NCCT or the National Center for Competency Testing and the NBSTSA or the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

    Before you apply for a surgical technologist certification exam, make sure first that you actually qualify to take it. For example, you must have experience to the tune of seven years you should have completed a program like hospital training for two years. These are the requirements of the NCCT. Additionally, make sure that you don’t have any surgical technologist certification assistcriminal record of any sort. A lot of institutions run background checks to determine if a certification applicant has any criminal offenses. The exam usually consist of two hundred multiple choice questions. To pass the exam, you need to correctly answer 119 of the questions given.

    There is another surgical technologist certification called the Tech in Surgery Certified or T-SC. The National Center for Competency Testing is the one offering this exam. This certification can be availed by people who have completed surgical technology degree programs or hospital training programs. Furthermore, people who have at least 7 years of field experience are also allowed to go through with the certification exam. Once you acquire a surgical technologist certification, you need to maintain it by keeping it current. This can be achieved through continuous education classes or exam retakes every four or five years.
